Fresh woes for murder suspect

MASERU — Lehlohonolo Scott, 25, who together with his mother is being charged with murder, appeared in the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday this time to face charges of fraud.
Scott, who is charged with five counts of theft by false pretences, appeared before magistrate ’Manapo Motebele.
After the charges were read to him he was advised that he had a right to seek legal representation.
Scott then applied for bail and his case was remanded to tomorrow.
The three-page indictment containing five counts says the accused, who was employed as a registry officer at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, defrauded two students of M24 900 claiming that he would assist them pay tuition fees.
On the first count the prosecution alleges that on July 13, 2010 at Limkokwing University, Scott unlawfully and with intent to steal and defraud misrepresented to Tauoa Tšehla that “he would assist him to pay tuition fees of the amount of M6 000”.
The indictment contends that by means of such misrepresentation Scott stole M6 000 from Tšehla.
On count two the accused is said to have obtained the sum of M3 500. Through misrepresentation and theft the accused defrauded Tšehla by promising to assist him to pay tuition fees.
On the third count of theft by false pretences, Scott on March 10 allegedly through misrepresentation stole from Tšehla another M2 000 under the pretext that he would help him pay tuition fees.
On the remaining two counts, the accused using the same misrepresentation with intent to defraud, stole M6 500 from Thapelo Pekeche after promising him he would assist him to pay tuition fees.
This happened on August 27, 2010 at the same university.
On the last count the accused still using the same means of deception and misrepresentation obtained from Pekeche the sum of M6 900 “which money the accused did steal and thus did commit the crime of theft by false pretences,” the prosecution states.
Scott and her 54-year-old mother ’Malehlohonolo Scott are being charged with the murder of 20-year-old Kamohelo Mohata whose dismembered body was retrieved from a local primary school toilet.
They are also facing another charge of murdering Moholobela Seetsa last January.
