Bantu maintain unbeaten run
By Mikia Kalati
MASERU — Bantu maintained their eight-match unbeaten run when they beat Nyenye Rovers 3-0 in a Vodacom premier league match played at the newly opened Leshoboro Seeiso Stadium in Mafeteng on Sunday.
The high flying Caswell Moru’s side has not lost a match since a 4-3 loss to Joy in September last year.
A Matšo Matebele, as Bantu are affectionately known, opened the scoring in the first half through the ever improving Mokone Marabe who pounced after poor defending by Nyenye Rovers.
A brace in the second half by Mokone’s younger brother, Litšepe Marabe, was enough to secure the home side the three points as they continued their march towards their first league title.
The left-footed winger has been in great form since joining from Botswana side Flamingo Santos at the start of the season and is among the league’s leading goal scorers.
Bantu captain, Tlali Maile, praised his teammates for the hard work after the victory.
“The win over Rovers was very important and was made special by the fact that it was the opening match of the second round at the new stadium,” Maile said.
The hard working Bantu skipper said their intentions are to maintain their good form and keep fighting all the way to the end.
“The club has made it clear that their priority is winning the league and the players are aware of that responsibility,” he said.
He said the new players in the team have settled well and the team is already reaping the rewards of investing in quality players like the Marabe brothers and the former Matlama trio of Thapelo Mokhehle, Dlomo Monaphathi and Pali Tšalong over the last two seasons.
The match against the Maputsoe side was the first for last season’s top goal scorer, Pali Tšalong, who replaced Mosiuoa Boseka after the half-time break.
Elsewhere, Likhopo’s woes continued on Sunday as the Bishop Molatoli side suffered their fifth successive defeat at the hands of Linare.
Lioli and LDF registered victories over LMPS and Mpharane Celtic respectively.
Weekend results:
Saturday
LMPS 0-1 Lioli
Sunday
Bantu 3-0 Nyenye Rovers
Likhopo 1-3 Linare
LDF 2-1 Mpharane Celtic
