Thaba-Tseka man gets nine-month jail term for damaging property
THABA-TSEKA – A 25-year-old Thaba-Tseka man, Malefane Soai, was last Friday sentenced to nine months in jail or a fine of M900 for maliciously damaging property.
The sentence was however suspended for a period of one year on condition that he compensates the complainant.
Evidence presented before the court showed that Soai forcibly broke the door of ‘Malerato Noko’s house last Sunday.
Soai, who was drunk, said he was looking for Mojalefa Noko whom he suspected to have been in the house.
Soai alleged that Noko had stolen his sheep and owed him some money dating back four years.
In mitigation Soai pleaded for mercy from the court saying he was sorry.
He said he broke the door when he was in a provoked state after Noko had consistently failed to pay him.
Meanwhile, a 32-year old man also from Thaba-Tseka was last Friday jailed to 10 years for raping a 40-year-old woman.
The man, Malefane Sejanamane, arrived at the complainant’s brother’s home and ordered her to accompany him to his house.
On the way home Sejanamane struck the complainant, ‘Mapotso Borotho, with a sword.
He later dragged her to his home where he raped her.
