Curtain comes down on Morija

MORIJA – The organisers of this year’s Telecom Econet Morija Arts and Cultural Festival have hailed the annual gala as a success despite a low attendance.

The festival started last Wednesday and ended on Sunday.

“We are surely pleased by this year’s festival,” Rethabile Chabana, the festival’s public relations officer, told the Weekender.

“We are satisfied,” she added.

Chabana said the poor attendance could have been a result of the rains that fell during the festival.

But everything else went according to plan, Chabana said.

“We managed to do it despite the poor attendance,” she said.

Chabana said the school cultural competitions held last Wednesday and Thursday were however well attended by students.

She also said the festival was a success because all billed artists had performed.

These included South African stars Letta Mbulu and Thandiswa Mazwai as well as Winnie Khumalo and Rythmic Elements.

Morafe, Deborah Fraser, DJ Natty and Anza also came from across the border to rock the festival.

Local entertainers DJ Counterforce, DJ Bootz and DJ Hally as well as Fatere and Mthibo, among others, rose to the occasion.

Famo was well represented by Hatlane, Jumbo oa Mosotho, Mantša, Puseletso Seema, Honye Noka and Botšonyane.

Chabana also noted the festival had passed with no death recorded as has been the case in the past.

Meanwhile, Yvette Andrew walked away with a brand new Chevrolet Spark in a raffle held on the last day of the festival.

“Yvette Andrew is the lucky Morija resident who won a brand new Chevrolet Spark,” Chabana said.

  1. Morija Arts and culture for many years has been a major event in the lesotho as a country. The event has been about culture and entertainment. The tourism board i hope it would look at it in another way. as the event is part of the rising and falling of the destination being Lesotho. If there are a few people going to the event then they have to make plans on how to increase the number of people to go to the event, its not about wether the artised all performed, its about gain a big market share of the market segment. So for me it was not a succes af few people came. They Morija Arts and Culture has to go and prepare its self for the future. And fro my point of view its like it can be made after 3years in order to keep it a big event and to attract more people and tourist.Poeple become bored if they know that every year the event is coming,so for it to become more bigger than ever 3 years is the best solution,as product pass through stages like introduction, growth, maturity and decline. They have to keep this in mind and improve their marketing strategies. Thanks

  2. it has come to mi attentin alcohol abuse during dis festive seasons become so much an interest to young people which result into bad consequences.as a matter of fact, people begin to question their children goin to such unbecomin things which result as a matter of alcohol abuse.therefore i plea to those on arrangement to the feast, that they take abuse of alcohol seriously as this feast is of great importance to the nation.
