Metsing pledges to develop infrastructure, fight poverty
THABA-TSEKA — Newly elected Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) leader, Mothetjoa Metsing, says his party will intensify infrastructure development and fight poverty if it is elected into power on May 26.
Metsing was addressing about 300 supporters at his first inaugural rally since his election at the helm of the LCD in Thaba-Tseka on Sunday.
He replaced Pakalitha Mosisili who resigned from the party in February to form the Democratic Congress (DC), ending two years of a bitter standoff for the control of the former ruling party.
“We know your pain,” Metsing told party supporters.
“The LCD has joined the election race and I appeal to Basotho all over Lesotho to go to the polls on May 26 and vote for the LCD.
“You will give us the opportunity to send men and women of vision to govern this country.”
Metsing said the issue of fighting poverty was top on the LCD’s election agenda adding that he was confident that “together we shall prevail”.
He said time had come for Basotho to protect their turf and use their vote to elect a party that understands their needs.
Metsing said he had been in Thaba-Tseka since Thursday and had learnt of the plight of residents who had to carry their dead on their backs or carry coffins with their hands because there were no roads leading into villages.
“It is imperative that we construct roads in Thaba-Tseka, so that you don’t have to endure the misery of carrying the dead on your backs,” he said.
Metsing, who was fired as information minister in January, said he was aware that the government had bought machinery for the construction of roads in the district but he was deeply embarrassed when he learnt that the equipment had been taken to another district.
“I say to government authorities, if only you could stop playing around with Basotho’s feelings.
“It is unfair for people to carry their dead on their backs even when there are funds set aside and plans made to ease the burden.
“I thank the Lord for bringing me here so that I could see your plight.
“But only you can make a difference at the poll,” Metsing said.
He also blamed the local government ministry for making decisions in Maseru instead of making them at council level where decisions could be made by the people.
“We have to carefully review the Local Government Act to ensure that it fits well with the purpose of local councils.”
The LCD leader said it was not clear what the duties of councillors were.
Local Government minister Ponts’o Sekatle was not available for comment.
However, her office undertook to organise an exclusive interview for the minister to give her side of the story.
Metsing added that at least 10 percent of the national budget should be allocated to agriculture to ensure food security.
The LCD manifesto also addresses artificial insemination of livestock for reproduction and multiplication of offspring.
Because Lesotho was a temperate zone experiencing all four seasons of the year it was ideal for the country to invest in growing grass to improve pastures.
“We can specialise in animal farming in the highlands and use the good soil we have in the lowlands for continuous crop farming,” he said.
He however lamented that stock-theft had affected livestock farming adding this had set Lesotho back by M400 million.
On education, Metsing said although the government distributed education funds to students through the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) there were always unnecessary delays in disbursing the funds to beneficiaries.
“The trend should be done away with.
“Manpower has to work directly with banks for the facilitation of electronic transfers. “This would then translate into the money reaching beneficiaries on time,” Metsing said.
Metsing added that the continuous closure of tertiary institutions was having a negative impact on students because it wastes their time.
“Parents need to be engaged.
“Government has been making its own decisions without consulting those involved.
“But that will change when the LCD takes over.”
Metsing said an LCD government would introduce Advanced Level after the Cambridge Overseas School Certificate to improve the quality of education and ensure that it meets international standards.
Local Government minister Ponts’o Sekatle was not available for comment.
However, her office undertook to organise an exclusive interview for the minster to give her side of the story.

Metsing was in the government “yesterday” and failed to raise these
issues of Local Government and others. Worst is that he was a minister in the cabinet.Metsing is a looser and pulled by the nose by Malie and has no backbone.
Thaba-Tseka people snubbed him after staying several days there.
He pulled out of the “Vote of No confidence” in a last minute;what a coward governer he can be.
“Nete ke thebe, sechaba ke poho.Basotho people are very complicated in polittics and will make a correct decision as always. We don’t need dictators anymore. sorry gentleman. We have had enough before 1993.

2. Metsing added that the continuous closure of tertiary institutions was having a negative impact on students because it wastes their time.
“Parents need to be engaged.
Why not talk about putting mechanisms in place to ensure smooth-running of tertiary instituions inter alia establishment of post-high school standards authority. In the long run this would definitely obviate the need for involvement of parents’. Additionally frachises like Lim would cease to exist in ur borders. I sense something about the politicians that the way they blame their rivals in politics, they only want to create and pave their way into the parliament. Please mark my words Lesotho will be still in poverty even in after 100 yrs as long as we have this kind of leadership, which is funny. There is no reason for the PM to stand for Elections for the 4th time, there is no reason for ntate Thabane to stand for Elections at his age. Metsing, my friend just be kind to tell Basotho who is in the front seat of LCD, is you or Mpho Malie?
Comment by Lefefooane on 19 April 2012:
Honestly, unlike most people, I am not impressed by Metsing. He has been part and parcel of the failure, incempetencies, corruption, nepotism of LCD for the past so many years. He never even gave a signal that he was not happy with way things were being run in LCD government. He simply sad down and enjoyed his comfort zone. He even gained weight. Of all things I will not forget the way the man defended mccd’s south African ID. I was like “Isn’t and ID a private matter? Where is the owner of this ID to explain?” This Metsing went own to defent the misappropriation of the forty compensatory seats(litulo tsa khekhethane). I remember this man (Metsing) are ” Malebo re batla nyeooe”. You know, Malemo had said he is withdrawing the case but Metsing insisted “Malebo re batla nyeooe”. No wonder later on he said “Makhotla a qetile” etc etc etc. Since when did this Maramanyana see himself as the messiah/saviour of the Basotho nation when he has been part and parcel of all those bad deeds of mccd’s government. Listen to him answer the MKM question then you would be sure that “Phokojoe ha e sole mekhoa, empa e sola boea”. I am not impressed at all. Metsing was just there watching when radio stations were being shut down, he was there when block farming money was being shared by ‘that group’. I checked the hansard in parliament and I saw Metsing voted for the pinnacle code/bill (Ho bolaoa ho masea a bokoa a sale ka lipopelong tsa bo ‘mabona). Then, Who is this Metsing. Credit goes to him though, he is the most calm of all leaders we have in this country.

Now bare in mind that the corrupt elements of LCD have left, he was part of the faction in the LCD that exposed the block farming saga. Why would he expose somthing he is part of. Also note that some of the corupt activities were exposed by Metsing faction.
But @ Lefefoane, i know you hate Ntate MCCD so i gues you think Ntate Tom is better yet he has been part of that LCD regime. Oh he has also been part of the BNP regime, but i do not hear you critisize them.

All this happened before he exposed the Block farming saga, why don’t you think some involved elements were trying to scare Malie or even assassinate him.
If you hate corruption you don’t even have to look across the river in RSA, its happening here in Lesotho committed by your beloved DC members
Comment by Concerned citizen on 24 April 2012:
@rocket, I think you are one of the corrupt monsters in frontline and also one of the DC culprits. Why was that white woman got murdered immediately after submitting audit report for Clinton foundation? Do you think block farming saga is different from Clinton audit report? Maybe you are one of those perpetrators, thats the reason you are so concerned. If you always keep on telling us about you so-called RSA, we will also refer to the facts we know about RSA. Your so-called RSA is not our GOD, is not an angel to us, we are not even interested about SA’s happenings. Don’t ever mention it in our discussions here. We are not part of that country and we are not even interested to be part of that country. If you are interested, can go and ask for favour to reside in it!!!

@ concerned Citizen, when I said I expected a better conclusion from an educated nation you are not included. You obviously don’t sound educated even by the way you write, let alone your poor logic. Although I do not want to glorify your rumblings with an answer i cannot resist the edge.
Even at your remarkable level of intelligence please answer the following for me:
1, If somebody submits a damning report about you, would you murder him at your door step? What use will it be, besides implicating yourself to murder a person after submission of the report. You do it before she submits the report not after.
2, Does anybody here in the forum know what the report says, which implicates him. If yes, the Americans are so big on justice that it is interesting that they are not pressurising our government to prosecute him. Remember our government don’t like him too, so they would easily do it.
@ Citizen stop talking nonsense, yet again i cannot blame you with your level of intelligence. Remarkable indeed!!
