Former soldier shot dead in fight over nun
MASERU — A police constable gunned down a former soldier at Christ the Priest Catholic Nun Convent in Mafeteng in a suspected love triangle in the early hours of Monday.
The names of the three have not been released.
Police spokesman Masupha Masupha said the soldier arrived at the convent at around 1am only to find the nun in the company of the police constable.
Masupha said when he realised that there was another man in the nun’s room, he went berserk, breaking some windows.
The police constable retaliated by firing shots at him.
The soldier was hit by one of the bullets and died on the spot.
“I can confirm that a former soldier was found dead at Motsekuoa Christian Catholic Nun Convent in Mafeteng after he had an argument with a police officer,” Masupha said.
He said the former soldier had a bullet wound on the chest.
Masupha said the police officer was arrested immediately after the incident and is expected to appear in court soon to face a charge of murder.
The nun refused to talk to the Lesotho Times crew on Tuesday, referring this newspaper to the head of the nunnery.
The nunnery head also declined to comment saying she could not talk to the media adding she had since written a written detailing what had happened to the police.
Mafeteng police commander, Mpota Nthako, however said they had not received such a letter.
“We only have a statement made by the nun, not any letter from the nunnery,” Nthako said.
The head of the Catholic Church in Lesotho, Archbishop Tlali Lerotholi, through his secretary, also declined to comment.

As you discuss thi sensitive matter please do not refer to the catholic church as though the catholic church condones infedility or adalterous behaviour. Afterall no one is forced to be a nunu. Even a serving nun can resign freely/voluntarily if she feels that she can no longer cope with the strict requiments of nunnery. Nunnery is a voluntary organization. People have joined and dejoined as it pleased them.
