TWO China-based Basotho fashionistas will this Saturday host a fashion event in Maseru to showcase summer couture and foster interaction between designers and clients.
The Red Carpet Fashion Show is the brainchild of Francinah Kekana and Nthabiseng Setsumi, which will be held at Barcelos restaurant at Maseru Mall.
According to Kekana, the show is meant to give local designers exposure to their clients and vice versa.
“The event is basically meant to showcase the clothes suitable for the summer season and to give local boutiques and designers the opportunity of interacting with potential clients,” she said.
“We believe the show will go a long way in improving brand awareness and also build Lesotho’s fashion industry.”
The two ladies are currently pursuing their studies in China, with Kekana pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration and Setsumi a fashion design student. The duo also imports apparel from China for sale locally, which has spurred their passion to uplift the fashion industry.
“I would always post on Facebook the fabulous designs I have seen in Chinese boutiques, and a friend based here in Lesotho asked me to bring them some of the outfits. That is how my enterprise started,” said Kekana.
Setsumi also chipped in saying: “I watched a lot of fashion shows on television, and would copy the designs I saw and fused them with practical elements here at home to give them a unique and exciting look.
“We have noted that Basotho designers are not holding fashion shows hence our decision to change that trend. Hopefully, the show will develop into an annual event that will take the fashion world in Lesotho by storm.”
She said the show will showcase five local designers whose outfits range from smart casual to formal, adding that this year’s edition will only feature ladies’ fashion.
