MASERU — A total of M70 000 was raised during the SOS Children’s Village Golf Tournament held at Maseru Golf Club last Saturday.
The SOS Children’s Village-Lesotho spokesperson, Ms Mantsikoe Mare, thanked companies whose representatives took part in the tournament, which sought to raise funds for the Village, which has been helping vulnerable children since the 1980s.
The businesses included Matekane Group of Companies, Metropolitan Lesotho, KFC, Alliance Insurance, Executive Transport, and AON Lesotho.
“We are very thankful to these companies for coming on board and helping us raise funds for the Village,” Ms Mare said.
“We hope to make this an annual competition because there is a serious need for funds to keep us going, as an organisation.”
Ms Mare revealed the Village had lost sponsorship over the years, which was coming from countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
“This is the second time we have managed to stage the tournament and we are delighted that we managed to host it this year. The tournament started in 2012 and the plan is to have it annually, to help us raise funds for the Village.
“We also have a trolley at Pick n Pay supermarket in Maseru where shoppers can leave any gift for the Village.”
Ms Mare further urged Basotho to support the Village and “make a difference to the under-privileged kids staying at SOS because they are the responsibility of the whole country, and not just one organisation or individual”.
