MASERU — Lesotho will tomorrow host the largest sponsored Open Darts Championships at Lesotho Sun.
The event which will see seven countries competing is sponsored by Maseru Sun to the tune of M50 000.
The competing countries are Lesotho, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland.
Lesotho Darts Association president Tlali Letsie told the Lesotho Times this was the largest cash prize tournament in Africa.
“The tournament will be held at Lesotho Sun from April 29 to May 1,” Letsie said.
“This is the largest cash prize tournament in Africa and it has attracted players from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.”
The tournament is only open for individuals not teams.
Registration which is M50 per person will commence on April 28.
“We are still not sure as yet about the cash prizes but the tournament is sponsored by Maseru Sun. It has in past attracted the best players from around Africa,” Letsie said.
Lesotho will be defending in Men’s Singles with Lepolesa Foloko and Bonga Mthethwa in the Children’s Singles.
“The winner last year got a M3000 cash prize, a trophy and some gifts and we are not sure how much they will get in their different categories this year,” he said.
He added that some of the visitors had already started arriving in the country for the tournament.
“Some of them are arriving today for registration on April 28.”
