A Quthing man is in police custody for castrating his neighbour he had allegedly caught having sex with his wife.

Police spokesperson Clifford Molefe yesterday confirmed the arrest of 30-year-old Kabelo Mathibeli soon after the incident, which he said took place last Saturday in Paballong in Mafeteng.

Senor Inspector Molefe told the Lesotho Times: “According to the information we have so far, the suspect is said to have come home from work earlier than expected at around 11 am, only to find his house locked and no sign of his wife.

“He then decided to knock on the neighbour’s door and ask if, by any chance, the man had seen his wife. There was no answer although the key was still in the keyhole and he could hear sounds coming from the house.”

Snr Insp Molefe said the husband became suspicious and decided to go to the back of the house and peeped through the window.

“Immediately he is said to have seen the couple having sex and realised that it was his wife and the neighbour. That’s when he broke the window and forced his way into the room. He overpowered the neighbour and removed his whole manhood with the knife,” Snr Insp Molefe added.

The heavily bleeding man was then rushed to Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital by well-wishers where he is still detained and fighting for his life, Snr Insp Molefe said.

A picture of the man in hospital without his genitals has since gone viral on the internet. The Lesotho Times could not immediately establish who took the photo.

Snr Insp Molefe said Mathibeli is expected to appear in court on 8 December to face an attempted murder charge.

“The police are still conducting investigations into the matter but the suspect will appear in court on 8 December. The 28-year-old victim is married and remains in hospital,” Snr Insp Molefe added.

Meanwhile, Mathibeli’s wife is alleged to have since run away from home following the incident.
