The second round of the 2015/16 Vodacom Premier League season started with a bang at the weekend with new signings grabbing all the attention for the right reasons through outstanding performances.

The matches also saw a premier league side scoring five goals in a game as Liphakoe hammered Mphatlatsane 5-2 on Saturday.

The other interesting part of the weekend matches was that there was no draw in all the games played on Saturday and Sunday.

Bantu’s new signing, Lebajoa Mosehlenyane, who completed his move from Linare to A Matšo Matebele last week, won the hearts of his new team’s supporters after scoring a brace in the 4-1 win over Likila United on Sunday.

What makes it even more special for Mosehlenyane is that Bantu were in trouble at the end of the first round of the season, leading to the sacking of coach Motlatsi Shale while the team also transfer-listed some of its underperforming players.

There is no doubt that there was serious need for A Matšo Matebele to refresh their squad as their standards had dropped so badly, and threatening to bring the name of this great club into disrepute.

However, I think the addition of Mosehlenyane could change the fortunes of the club and rejuvenate the team.

The attacking midfielder had shown a lot of potential as a young player after being part of Leslie Notši’s Makoanyane XI that qualified for the 2011 Africa Youth Championship and I think playing for a side as big as Bantu is enough motivation for him to perform again.

I was also happy to see former Likuena and Bantu playmaker, Mosiuoa Boseka, back in action and scoring on his debut for LCS.

The talented left-footed midfielder rose from the bench to hand LCS all the three points in the 2-1 win over Linare also on Sunday.

Boseka had been club-less since he was transfer listed by Bantu at the end of last season mainly due to indiscipline.

LCS have thrown Boseka a lifeline and given him a second chance to get his career back on track. I hope he will grab that opportunity with both hands as he still has a lot to offer. I hope the midfielder will put his heart and soul in it and do what he know he is capable of.

Fidel ‘Maestro’ Ntoya is another player who hogged the limelight for the right reasons at the weekend.

The Congolese midfielder recently sealed his return to Kick4Life and gave a man-of-the-match performance as he score a brace in the 2-0 win over Rovers.

For me, this is a sign that this part of the season is going to be very interesting, not just at the top of the table, but even at the basement.

Lioli remain solid at the top of the table and so are second-placed Matlama who started the year with a 1-0 win over Sundawana.

By the look of things, Matlama are serious contenders for the league title and it is going to be interesting to see if they can leapfrog Lioli and take pole position.

LDF also looked much rejuvenated despite losing to Likhopo on Saturday.

This is a team that has been known for a boring style of football, but they were a different side at the weekend.

Among the new players at the army side, I was really impressed by left-back Tsolo Mokapane, who I think has a very bright future in the game.
