THAHA Khube FM (TK FM), in partnership with Green Apple Productions, last week presented Afro-pop star, Damario, with an award after his hit track Khalase e Ncha was voted number one in the station’s top10 chart.
The song won the accolade on the station’s programme Rocka Feela Hit Jam which airs on weekdays from 3 to 6pm.

“Listeners of Rocka Feela were given the chance to vote for their favourite local track through call-ins and the programme’s Facebook page,” said Damario in an interview with the Weekender this week. The voting session lasted for two weeks.

“I was surprised when I got a call from the station and asked to go and collect my award for Khalase e Ncha as I was not aware of the competition because I seldom listen to the radio because I am always on the move.
Damario said he felt “humbled and honoured” by the award and the fact that local music is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

“I have also been told the second competition will be underway soon with different songs,” he said. “I believe my fans will vote for my other song onto the charts, and hopefully take it home too.”
Damario also thanked the radio station and Green Apple Productions for the initiative, saying he believes it will motivate local artistes to work harder in order to be recognised.
Khalase e Ncha was recorded in Pretoria, South Africa in June last year prior to Damario’s latest offering My Journey 2: Khalase e Ncha, on which it also features.

According to the muso, the song is meant to reignite the spark in fading relationships, reminding couples of the happier and adventurous times when they first met. In the track, Damario urges couples not to take each other for granted and just like when they first met.

Furthermore, the song tells those experiencing difficulties in their relationships due to fear, worries, secrets and insecurities to not hide behind cunning crocodile’s smiles.
The track proved to be a hit upon its release and even dominated South African radio station, Lesedi FM’s charts on Ba2cada’s afternoon show Rea Kubeletsa, sitting on the number one spot for two consecutive weeks.
