Woman burnt to death

MASERU — A 54-year-old woman from Kolo was burnt to death together with her two-year-old grandchild last Friday.

The two were sleeping at night when their hut was set on fire by unknown people.

Acting police spokesperson ‘Mantolo Mothibeli confirmed the incident.

She said the charred bodies of the two were only discovered by other villagers in the morning.

Furniture in the house had also been completely destroyed.

Another 43-year-old woman was shot and killed in her home in the same village the same night before her body was burnt to ashes.

The body was found the following morning on the door step to her house.

The deceased were related but lived in different places.

Neighbours told the police that they did not see anything but only heard gunshots during the second incident.

They were shocked to find the two houses burnt in the morning.

Police are investigating the cases.

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old woman from Butha-Buthe was stoned to death by a 26-year-old man on Sunday.

According to a police report the suspect killed the deceased after he allegedly impregnated her.

“The woman was currently staying in Mokhotlong when her boyfriend stoned her to death,” Mothibeli said.

The suspect told the police that he stoned the woman after she told him she was pregnant.

The suspect is said to have struck her repeatedly with stones until she died, Mothibeli said.

When the police arrived at the scene the woman was already dead.

Her body was taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem while the suspect was arrested.

Police are investigating the case.

Elsewhere, a 54-year-old man from Khubetsoana was shot dead by two unknown gunmen on Friday.

According to the police the deceased was shot in Motimpose.

“He had just left his business place when the gunmen arrived and shot him. He was with one of his employee’s who works at the shop,” Mothibeli said.

The man was driving when he was shot.

Police are also investigating the incident.
